Contrast sensitivity of the human peripheral retina.

چکیده

Threshold contrasts were measured psychophysically for a sinusoidal grating targetcentered 12’in the peripheral retina. The relationship between contrast sensitivity, the reciprocal ofthe threshold contrast, and the spatial frequency of the gratings can be adequately described by thedifference of two Gaussian functions. The parameters of the fitted Gaussians are used to describethe effects of varying the mean luminance of the target on the shape of the contrast sensitivityfunction. With increasing luminance the characteristic radii-parameters which are related to thewidth of the spread function of the visual system-decrease, while the overall contrast sensitivityof the eye increases. On utilise les paramitres des gaussiennes pour dicrire I’effet de la variation dela luminance moyenne du test sur la forme de la fonction de sensibilitt au contraste. Quand laluminance croit. les paramitres de rayons caractkristiques lits i la largeur de la fonction d’ttalementdu systeme visuel diminuent. tandis que la sensibilitt globale au contraste de I’oeil augmente. Der Unterschied zwischen zweiGausschen Fehlerfunktionen kann dem Verhgltnis zwischen Kontrast-empfindlichkeit, demReziprozitHtswert der Kontrastwschwelle, und der Raumfrequenz der Gitter genugten. DieParameter der berechneten Gausschen Funktionen werden zur Beschreibung des Einflusses derdurchschnittlichen Leuchtdichte des Priiflichtes auf die Form der Kontrastempfindlichkeitsfunk-tion behiitzt.
